Manchester Utd goalkeeper David De Gea will be looking to put on a show, as he prepares for the FA Cup Final this weekend. According to leading sports technology company Brandtix, he has seen his value rise by 49% over the last season, and continues to be linked with a move to Champions League finalists Real Madrid.

De Gea signed a new 4 year contract with the Old Trafford club at the beginning of the season after missing out on a transfer to his boyhood team on deadline day last August. The fact his value has increased may persuade The Reds to finally part company with their player of the year.

Wayne Rooney is still one of the Premier League’s most marketable players although he has slipped to second for the season overall behind Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil in the Brandtix table, with De Gea and playmaker Juan Mata also featuring in the top 10.

The report suggests that at the age of 30 and going into what might be his last International tournament, a good showing in Saturday’s final would help boost Rooney’s brand value ahead of the Euros, before he’ll need to rely more on his social media following to maintain his worth to the club and sponsors.

As for the club itself, the report finds that it remains one of the most marketable and attractive brands throughout all the European Leagues, coming third behind the two Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The Brandtix ‘End of Season Review’ is based on index-scoring players in real time, combining their on-pitch stats with social media reach and fan sentiment. The use of such information varies; club investors and sponsors reviewing opportunities to align their brands with football now have a viable metric to compare their options. Alternatively, clubs can seek out – and agents can market – players who bring a distinct type of following with them. With the transfer window looming, this knowledge could be vital come July 1 when the player merry-go-round begins.
